Definition of terms

Definitions and explanations of the specialised terms used on the website

Conditioned site permit

It is the site permit for an objective, mentioning the terms of co-existence with the close-by electrical installations. The observance of those terms is mandatory and the permit is favourable only in case the respective requirements are observed.

Green certificate

It is the document certifying a volume of 1 MWh of electricity produced from renewable energy sources and delivered in the network. Green certificates are traded separately as compared to the generated energy, the revenues from their selling are meant to stimulate producers of energy from renewable sources. Annually, the suppliers are obliged to purchase a certain number of green certificates, thus encouraging this type of producers. This is the support scheme for these producers.

Captive customer

It is the electricity customer who, for technical, economical or regulation - related reasons, is unable to choose his supplier, as well as the eligible customer who does not make use of his right to choose a supplier.

Eligible customer

It is the electrciity customer that can choose his own supplier and directly purchase electricity, having access to the transmission and/ or distribution networks. Eligible customers are able to conclude electricity supply contracts on the competition market with one or several suppliers, based on the frame contract elaborated by the competent authority.

Household customer

It is the customer who purchases electricity for his own use, excluding the consumption corresponding to trading or professional activities.

Business customer

It is the authorised natural person or legal person purchasing electricity for industrial, trading or agricultural activities.

Renewable energy

It refers to the forms of energy produced through the energetic transfer of the energy resulting from renewable natural processes. Thus the energy of solar light, of wind, of running waters, of biological processes and of geothermal heat can be captured by people using different processes. The non-renewable energy sources include nuclear energy as well as the energy resulting from the burning of fossil fuels, like petrol, coal and natural gas. These resources are obviously limited by the existence of the respective resources and they are generally considered as non-renewable. The following belong to the category of renewable energy sources: wind energy, solar energy, water energy, hydro energy, tide energy, geothermal energy, energy derived from biomass: bio-diesel, bio-ethanol and biogas. All these forms of energy are used for the generation of electricity.

Reactive electricity

It is a form of additional energy used to produce and maintain magnetic fields and it is used, besides active electricity, by the electrical receptors equipped with windings, like electrical engines or transformers. Reactive electricity can be generated locally (in compensation equipments), in order to replace the consumption of reactive energy delivered by the energy system. Properly dimensioned, the compensation equipments bring in significant benefits for the energy customer, concerning both the reduction of the invoice and the electricity quality.

Electricity reservation

The reservation is applied irrespective of whether electricity is consumed or not, because it ensures the availability of the electricity supply service the at any time.
